On April 16, 2024, a seminar “Ethical donation in Kazakhstan” was held in Astana, organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was attended by specialists in the field of transplantation, including international experts, professional communities, representatives of religious denominations and non-governmental organizations.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, Archpriest Dimitry Baidek, the keymaster of the Assumption Cathedral of the capital, became a participant in the seminar.
Experts discussed the legal and ethical framework for organ donation and transplantation, World Health Organization guidelines and reviewed the current situation and key challenges in implementing a national transplant program in Kazakhstan.
Father Dimitri expressed the church position on this issue.
Currently, there are 7 transplant centers and 40 donor organizations in the country that provide medical services to prepare a posthumous donor for multi-organ donation for the purpose of transplantation. Today, in the Unified Register of Donors and Recipients, about 4,000 people are awaiting organ transplantation, including 104 children, most of whom are young and of working age.
