Metropolitan Alexander performed monastic tonsure in the Matroninsky Church of the Iveron-Seraphim Monastery in Almaty

March 7, 2025. Almaty. On Friday of the 1st week of Lent, after the evening service in the Church of the Blessed Matrona of Moscow of the Iveron-Seraphim Monastery, the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, performed the monastic tonsure of the key-keeper of the Dormition Cathedral in Astana, Archpriest Dimitry Baidek.

The following prayed for the tonsure: the confessor of the Almaty diocese, Archimandrite John (Sazonov), and the head of the personal secretariat of the Metropolitan, Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky).

The tonsured monk received the name Dmitry - in honor of the holy faithful Tsarevich Dmitry of Uglich, Moscow.

After the tonsure, Metropolitan Alexander addressed the newly tonsured hieromonk Dmitry with words of instruction. As a blessing for monastic life, the hierarch presented the pastor with the Feodorovskaya icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.

Hieromonk Dmitry (Baidek) was assigned to the Aksay men's hermitage in the name of the holy martyrs Seraphim and Theognost of Alma-Ata.
