The first meeting of the open historical society of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District in 2024 took place in Almaty

April 11, 2024. Alma-Ata. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the first meeting of the open historical society of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District of the new year was held in the conference hall of the spiritual and cultural center named after Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov).

The meeting was attended by: the clergyman of the Nativity Cathedral of the Southern capital, the head of the church history department of the Alma-Ata Seminary, Archpriest Alexander Gaichenya; Referent of the Alma-Ata Diocesan Administration, Hierodeacon Mitrofan (Ognev), Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of the Alma-Ata Theological Seminary, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences A.P. Soloviev; representative of the Association of Religious Associations of Kazakhstan for the city of Almaty and Alma-Ata region V.G. Ovsyannikov; local historians A.G. Voronov, S.I. Stepanova, L. Korotchenko and E.A. Morozova, member of the Alma-Ata diocese commission for the canonization of saints M. Ivashko, Orthodox believers of the southern capital.
Archpriest Alexander Gaichenya opened the meeting with a welcoming speech. The shepherd congratulated those gathered on the saving days of Lent and announced the agenda of the meeting.

Local historian L. Korotchenko presented a report to the audience, in which she spoke about the history of the Kozelshchanskaya Icon of the Mother of God and one of the lists of this image, stored in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the southern capital.

Information about the life and works of the Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR A.M. Kurganova shared local historian E.A. Morozova.

At the end of the message, an exchange of views took place on a wide range of issues relating to regional history.

The next meeting of the open historical society of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District will take place in the middle of next month.
