A meeting took place between the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan and the Akim of the East Kazakhstan region E.B. Kosherbaev

April 21, 2024. Ust-Kamenogorsk. The regional akimat hosted a meeting between the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, and the akim of the East Kazakhstan region, Ermek Bedelbaevich Kosherbaev.
The meeting was attended by: Archbishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk Amfilohiy, vicar of the Astana diocese, Bishop of Taldykorgan Claudian; Secretary of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Diocese, Deacon Ilya Kvan; on the part of the akimat - first deputy akim of the East Kazakhstan region N.A. Saktaganov, Deputy Regional Akim D.B. Sapanov, akim of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk Zh.M. Omar, Deputy Akim of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk I.F. Smith.
The meeting participants discussed issues of assistance to Kazakhstanis who found themselves in the zone of extreme disaster - unprecedented floods that affected ten regions of the country. The interlocutors noted the relevance and importance of the call of the head of state K.-J.K. Tokayev, who said that “in such a situation, actions aimed at consolidating power and society are of particular importance.”
The head of the Metropolitan District told the akim about the charitable assistance provided to the victims by the diocesan social and charitable services and parish volunteers. The Metropolitan shared with E.B. Kosherbaev’s impressions of his recent archpastoral visit to the Kostanay region, which is experiencing the tragic consequences of the flood.
Ermek Bedelbaevich informed Metropolitan Alexander about the flood control measures being carried out in the region. According to the head of the regional administration, there is still quite a lot of snow in the mountainous areas, there is a second wave of floods, therefore, local executive bodies are cleaning river beds, dredging and bank protection on rivers, which with their spills pose a threat to the population and the national economy.
The interlocutors highly appreciated the work of the President of the country K.-J.K. Tokayev, both in the field of stabilization and strengthening of the political and economic sphere, and in preserving the invaluable spiritual and cultural heritage of the Great Steppe. The archpastor emphasized that constructive state-confessional relations in Kazakhstan ensure unity and harmony in society and this fact is emphasized in his speeches by the current head of state, who calls traditional peaceful Islam and Orthodoxy the guardians of humanistic ideals, spiritual, moral and family values.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues of mutual interest were discussed.
At the end of the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, Metropolitan Alexander and E.B. Kosherbayev exchanged good wishes and expressed confidence that the administration of the East Kazakhstan region and the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese of the Metropolitan District will continue good cooperation for the benefit of the residents of Rudny Altai.
