“Immortal Regiment” of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the photo gallery “Immortal Regiment” is posted on the official website of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District as part of the celebration of the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War..

This event was first held in 2020 and was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The clergy are holding in their hands portraits of relatives and friends who took part in the Great Patriotic War.

Blessing the memorable event, Metropolitan Alexander, in particular, said: “Victory Day is illuminated with Easter joy and at the same time, dissolved in pain and sadness from innumerable losses. The disaster that befell the Fatherland in the distant forties rallied our people, who in a single impulse stood up to defend their native land. Examples of the highest self-sacrifice and selfless devotion to the fatherland were shown to the world; millions of men and women have fulfilled the covenant of Christ: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” The course of history is inexorable, and there are fewer and fewer of those who took part in hostilities and worked in the rear during the hard times of war, but the greatness of the Victory, the significance of the sacrificial feat of their fathers and grandfathers, is becoming increasingly clear in the people's consciousness. A visible evidence of respect for the heroes of the war, a tribute to the defenders of the Fatherland who fell on the battlefield, and to all who “worked for Victory” is the “Immortal Regiment” campaign. In memory of the Great Victory, on the pages of the official website of the Metropolitan District, we post photographs of clergy who participated in the war and home front workers and our pastors with portraits of the winners.”
