On June 3, 2024, Andrei Olegovich Andreev, a famous cultural and artistic figure, director and documentary filmmaker, reposed in the Lord. The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, sent condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“The deceased was generously endowed by God with talents and gifts; he gained great fame in Kazakhstan, Russia and European countries as a bright and interesting documentary director. His work encourages viewers to think and poses serious philosophical questions to them. This ability to elevate people above the bustle of everyday life is an amazing ability that is inherent only in true masters. In his paintings, Andrei Olegovich spoke captivatingly and with inspiration about the life of Orthodoxy, skillfully conveyed on the screen the atmosphere of parish life, subtly and with deep feeling depicted portraits of pastors and laity.
The artist’s latest work was the film “Service,” which tells about the spiritual, educational, social, charitable and peacemaking activities of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan. In a large-scale film with a captivating narrative, interviews with hierarchs and clergy, prominent public figures of Kazakhstan and ordinary citizens of the country alternate with stunning views of natural, historical and cultural attractions. The film found its grateful audience and rightly received an award from the Radonezh International Film and Television Festival. Having learned about the death of Andrei Olegovich, I mourn along with the admirers of his original, outstanding work. The bright image of the deceased is imprinted in my memory - a wonderful interlocutor, an intellectual, a worker in the field of spiritual and moral enlightenment and a deeply religious person who passionately loves the Church of Christ.
I pray for the repose of the newly deceased servant of God Andrew in the heavenly abodes - where “there is no illness, no sorrow, no sighing, but endless life.”
Eternal and blessed memory to the newly deceased servant of God Andrei,” the condolence says.
