On October 29-31, 2022, the visit of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, to the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese of the Metropolitan District took place.
Metropolitan Alexander visited the second cathedral city of the diocese and the administrative center of the Abai region - Semipalatinsk.
On the trip, His Eminence was accompanied by: Vicar of the Astana diocese, Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan; Archpriest Yevgeny Vorobyov, head of the administrative secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District, Priest Georgy Sidorov, head of the Metropolitan’s protocol service, Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky, Deacon Alexander Mokiy.
On October 30, Metropolitan Alexander, concelebrated by the Archbishop of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk Amfilohiy, the administrator of the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese, Bishop Claudian of Taldykorgan, the clergy of the Ust-Kamenogorsk and Alma-Ata dioceses, celebrated the festive Divine Liturgy at the Resurrection Cathedral in the city of Semipalatinsk on the day of memory of the heavenly patron of East Kazakhstan - Hieromartyr Archbishop Alexander (Shchukin).
During the visit, the Head of the Metropolitan District met with the akim of the Abai region N.T. Urankhaev and Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ust-Kamenogorsk A.A. Khetagurov.
Metropolitan Alexander took part in the opening of the exhibition "Semipalatinsk in the years of hard times", dedicated to the feat of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Semipalatinsk.
Accompanied by Archbishop Amphilochius, Vladyka Metropolitan visited the Semipalatinsk Abalatsko-Znamensky Peter and Paul Convent, where he bowed to the shrines and talked with the Abbess Marionilla (Pomelnikova) and the nuns of the monastery.
Metropolitan Alexander held a working meeting with Archbishop Amfilohiy, which discussed the activities of the Semipalatinsk deanery and the implementation of spiritual and educational work by the clergy and the parish activists of the Resurrection Cathedral.
The head of the Metropolitan District held a number of meetings with representatives of science and culture, the leadership of public and ethno-cultural associations.
