April 9, 2024. Astana. In the capital's akimat, a meeting was held between the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the akim of the metropolis, Zhenis Makhmudovich Kasymbek.
The dean of the Astana church district, Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev), took part in the meeting.
At the meeting, the topic of helping Kazakhstanis affected by spring floods, which turned into a natural disaster in ten regions of the country, was discussed. It was noted that the people of Kazakhstan quickly responded to the call of the head of state and rallied in overcoming the consequences of a large-scale disaster. The archpastor informed the akim of the capital about the participation of social services of the dioceses of the Metropolitan District in charity events and volunteer projects related to the elimination of the consequences of the disaster.
Metropolitan Alexander told Zhenis Makhmudovich about current events in the life of the Astana diocese and the capital's deanery district and his meeting with the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Galymovna Balaeva.
The head of the capital's executive power shared with Metropolitan Alexander information about his visit to the counter-regulator, which provides engineering protection for the city from floods, as well as areas for reconstruction of the Yesil River bed. Akim emphasized that to ensure flood control measures in the Akmola region, the akimat of Astana allocated more than 100 units of cargo and specialized equipment, and civil protection authorities and public utilities are in constant readiness.
During the conversation, issues of interaction between the Astana diocese of the Metropolitan District and the administration of Astana were considered.
The head of the Metropolitan District informed Zhenis Makhmudovich that this year marks 170 years since the founding of the capital’s oldest temple and the oldest city building - the Constantine and Helena Cathedral, which is the spiritual and cultural pearl of Astana, an architectural monument of republican significance. The Metropolitan invited the akim to the celebrations, which will take place on June 2 and will include a vibrant concert program, a youth festival and an exhibition of unique archival materials and rare exhibits related to the history of the cathedral.
At the end of the meeting, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, the parties exchanged wishes for health and success in their work.
