The visit of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan to the Chimkent diocese has begun

On May 21, 2024, on the eve of the celebration in memory of the Transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas from Myra in Lycia to the city of Bari, the visit of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, began to the Chimkent diocese of the Metropolitan District.

Metropolitan Alexander is accompanied by: the vicar of the Astana diocese, Bishop Benjamin of Talgar, the rector of the Alma-Ata Church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" Archpriest Evgeny Vorobyov, the rector of the Cosmo-Damian Church of Alma-Ata Archpriest Georgy Chistyakov, the head of the Metropolitan's personal secretariat, Hieromonk Prokhor (Endovitsky ), keynote of the Kazan Cathedral of Alma-Ata, Priest Georgy Rublinsky, Protodeacon Nikolai Grinkevich, head of the Metropolitan's protocol service, Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky, Deacon Alexander Piven, Deacon Bogdan Boyko.

At the Shymkent international airport, the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan was met by Bishop Chrysanthus of Shymkent and Turkestan.

For prayerful worship and spiritual support of believers, His Eminence delivered to the Chimkent diocese a great shrine of Orthodoxy - an ark with part of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia.

From the airport, Metropolitan Alexander arrived at the St. Nicholas Cathedral in the city of Chimkent, where he celebrated Easter glorification.

May 22 in the program of the archpastoral visit:
– Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral, celebrating the patronal feast (beginning at 9:00);
– lithium for the ever-memorable Archbishop Eleutherius (Kozorez) at his resting place at St. Nicholas Cathedral;
- lithium at the worship cross in Lisya Balka - the place of execution of sufferers for the faith of Christ, political prisoners and repressed people.

During his stay in Chimkent, Metropolitan Alexander will hold a working meeting with Bishop Chrysanthos, heads of departments and employees of the diocesan administration, meet with the clergy, representatives of the city’s secular authorities and leaders of public and ethnocultural associations.
