Metropolitan Alexander presented the rector of the Russian State Social University A.L. Khazin received the Order of Glory and Honor

June 17, 2024. Moscow. The representative of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan at the Patriarchal Metochion at the Church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and Sophia was visited by the rector of the Russian State Social University (RGSU) Andrei Leonidovich Khazin.

A.L. Khazin is a world-famous historian and art critic, teacher, statesman and public figure; Professor, Head of Department, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov; Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts; UNESCO Prize laureate.

The distinguished guest was met by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.

In fulfillment of the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', Bishop Metropolitan presented A.L. Khazin received a high church award - the Order of Glory and Honor, III degree (Decree No. 54). The rector of the RGSU was awarded the Patriarchal Order in recognition of his assistance to the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and in connection with the 55th anniversary of his birth.

Andrei Leonidovich expressed words of gratitude to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan Alexander congratulated A.L. Khazin with a high church award, noting his active social work, assistance in restoring monuments of church architecture and great efforts in the spiritual and moral education of student youth.

During the conversation, Andrei Leonidovich told the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan about the work of the leading institution in the field of social sciences in Russia and the CIS countries, the history of which goes back more than a century. The rector reported that on June 14 at VDNKh there was an “Open Day of the RSSU. Festival of Faculties”, which was attended by more than 400 applicants interested in entering the First Social University of the country.

The meeting participants noted the positive results of the ongoing partnership between RSSU and universities in Kazakhstan.

Metropolitan Alexander told the guest about the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Astana and Alma-Ata diocese, the central event of which was the bringing to Alma-Ata of the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “Healer”. The archpastor noted that over 30 thousand people managed to venerate the shrine during their short stay.

During the conversation, the prospects for interaction between the RSSU and the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary were discussed.

The meeting took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere and ended with an exchange of good wishes.
