The charity event “Give Joy for Christmas” was held in Almaty

January 15, 2024. Alma-Ata. On Christmas Day, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the charity event “Give Joy for Christmas” was held.

The event was organized by Orthodox sisters of mercy and volunteers of the diocesan service “Mercy”.

On the eve of the Nativity of Christ, according to established tradition, children from socially vulnerable and large families wrote letters of wishes to the Mercy service.

Thanks to the activity of Almaty residents, parishioners and volunteers, 219 children received gifts on the bright holiday of the Nativity of Christ.

Volunteers and sisters of mercy congratulated their charges on the holiday: 85 people in a nursing hospital, 67 lonely elderly people in a home for the elderly and disabled, 105 people in a hospice, 5 people in a targeted ministry.

Organizers and participants of charity events note: “The most important thing for our beneficiaries is attention and care for them.”

The Diocesan Mercy Service and the Sisters of Mercy sincerely thank everyone who took part in the charity event and increased the joy of the Nativity of Christ for those in need.

The “Give Joy at Christmas” campaign is held annually by the “Mercy” service. This is one of the sisterhood's largest events, held from December 1st to December 29th. Children of wards (large families, wards at home, single mother families with disabled children) write letters to Santa Claus with wishes for gifts. The list is posted on social networks, kind people buy gifts and bring them to the “Mercy” service, which gives them to children on the Nativity of Christ.
