February 21, 2024. Astana. It was 95 years since the birth of one of the oldest nuns of the monastery in honor of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “Seeking the Lost” - nun Varvara (Stashan).
The head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, conveyed his archpastoral blessing and words of congratulations and good wishes to nun Varvara. A bouquet of flowers and a memorable gift from the hierarch were presented to the hero of the day by Priest Nikolai Koval.
From childhood, Anna (as the nun Varvara was called in the world) maintained a living and sincere faith in God. During her adolescence, during the Great Patriotic War, she worked in the rear, then helped restore the destroyed national economy. For her activities she was awarded the title “Veteran of Labor”. She worked on the railroad for many years. In 1984, at the behest of her heart she entered the monastic monastery of the city of Tselinograd (as Astana was then called), created by the ever-memorable Archimandrite Kirill (Borodin), a courageous confessor and ascetic of the faith and after 7 years she was tonsured into the minor schema.
Nun Varvara is known and loved by the clergy and religious people of the capital. She is distinguished by a special love for worship, simplicity, sincerity and friendliness.
